Northrnr is an outdoor clothing brand proudly made in Minnesota, with 100% of the sewing done locally. We source our fabric from New York and, from there, design, measure, cut, sew, and embroider each product in-house before shipping it out. Northrnr is one of the first brands to attempt creating an outdoor clothing line sewn entirely in the United States, rather than outsourcing production overseas.
Many brands choose overseas manufacturing because it is simpler and more cost-effective. For example, when a trending product needs to hit the market, brands often send a tech pack and color options to a manufacturer, who handles everything. The finished products arrive overseas, pre-packaged and ready to sell for a profit. Northrnr takes a different approach. As we’ve emphasized before, it’s not about the money for us. While we need revenue to sustain the business, profit is not our primary motivator. Instead, we focus on creating meaningful products through a meticulous process.
Take, for example, a single crewneck sweatshirt. The journey begins by sourcing the right fabric, ensuring its quality and suitability. Next, we select the appropriate thread and adjust the sewing machine tension. Once ready, we overlock all edges to prevent fraying and then sew over them to reinforce durability. Afterward, we trim excess threads, add embroidery using our in-house machines, and sew in the clothing tags. Finally, we package and prepare the product for shipping.
This hands-on process makes each product more meaningful because it’s something few brands are doing on a larger scale.
